Do the Photographs I Include in My Blog Posts Matter?
I just read a lovely post written by Jeanean Gendron. In this post, she recounts her very personal blogging journey. She is also an accomplished artist and photographer and included several of her photographs in the post.
While reading this post, I was reminded of a comment I received in a recent post. It suggested that the photographs we include in our posts are not an important part of the post itself.
The commenter felt that "content is king", nothing else matters. I would not argue with the premise that "content is king", however, I disagree with the statement that photographs don't matter. Photographs enhance the post and can be responsible for drawing readers in.
I find this to be especially true when I am writing localism posts. I take lots of photographs of Franklin TN neighborhoods and the surrounding Williamson County area. Many of which are contained within my blog posts. Even, when I write a market report, the photograph is of a home located within that particular neighborhood.
This provides buyers with an idea of the type of homes they can find in that particular neighborhood. Why would I include a photograph of a home in a neighboring community? Isn't it better to include an actual home from that neighborhood? Then the buyer can get an idea of the size, architecture and price.
I am working with out-of-state buyers right now who found me through my blogging efforts. They have not had the opportunity to frequent any of the boutiques, shops or eateries in historic downtown Franklin.
They feel they have come to know the area due to my blogging efforts. They specifically mentioned that they love the photographs I have included of the area. It is one of the things that inspired them to investigate buying a Franklin TN home.
For example, the photograph to the left is of the resort-style swimming pool located in the Westhaven neighborhood of Franklin TN. Now tell me that photograph does not draw you in?
If I were looking for a neighborhood with a swimming pool, Westhaven would definitely be on my list. That's just one example of how we can draw our readers in.
Does that mean I don't have to provide good quality content? No. I still need to provide quality local information for buyers and sellers.
The photographs are just the icing on the cake. The cake might taste good by itself but when I add the icing that cake may go from good to fabulous.
That's what I want...fabulous.
Do the photographs I put in my posts matter? You be the judge.
